This transmission can be identified by a case length of 24.250". In 1972, this transmission was introduced (1972-79) into the Jeeps; however, this early transmission used a cast iron adapter plate to fit this tranny to the AMC block. We manufacture an adapter to mate only the 1974 & newer transmissions to the Chevy blocks.
In 1974, Jeep redesigned the AMC TH400 case and eliminated the cast iron adapter so it would bolt directly to the Jeep engine. These transmissions can be used with the Chevy V8 engine by using our adapter plate. This kit consist of a new steel plate, special crank support bushing, and flexplate spacers. In addition, you will need to purchase a new Chevy flexplate.
Note: This Adapter assembly cannot be used with any LS Engine
