Stock Final Drive Comparison (FT86 / BRZ / FR-S)

Most 2013–2016 manual transmission FT86/BRZ/FR-S models use a 4.10:1 final drive. For the 2017+ Subaru BRZ equipped with the 6-speed manual, Subaru updated the OEM final drive to a shorter 4.30:1 to improve acceleration. (Automatic models keep different gearing and this manual final-drive change does not apply.)

What That Means for a 4.43 Final Drive

A 4.43 final drive is shorter than both 4.10 and 4.30, which increases wheel torque multiplication and makes the car feel more responsive and quicker to accelerate—especially for naturally aspirated FA20 setups.

Important: Shorter gearing also means higher cruising RPM at the same road speed, so highway-heavy drivers should factor that in.
