Radium Engineering FST-R Fuel Surge Tank
Equipped with Aeromotive 340 Stealth Fuel Pump (P/N 11142)
A Fuel Surge Tank (FST) is an essential upgrade for high-performance vehicles, designed to prevent fuel starvation in vehicles with inadequate fuel tank baffling. The FST acts as a buffer volume, maintained by the vehicle’s main lift pump and fuel returning from the pressure regulator, ensuring the engine is always supplied with fuel during high-G cornering or acceleration.
This specific FST-R configuration comes pre-assembled with the Aeromotive 340 Stealth Fuel Pump (P/N 11142).
High-Output Internals: The Aeromotive 11142
At the heart of this system is the Aeromotive 340 Stealth, a high-output, electric pump designed for superior flow across a wide pressure range.
-
Superior Flow: Boasting more than 340 lph at 40 psi, this pump offers over 30% more flow than many popular aftermarket competitors.
-
Forced Induction Ready: Ideal for turbocharged and supercharged applications requiring high-volume fuel delivery.
-
Durability: The turbine pump mechanism increases durability and is compatible with pulse-width modulated applications.
Integrated Regulation & Design
The "R" in FST-R stands for its revolutionary integrated fuel pressure regulator. Machined directly into the top cap, this high-flow regulator eliminates the need for an external unit, extra fittings, and hoses.
-
Simplified Plumbing: The side port serves as the regulated pressure output, plumbed directly to the fuel rail(s).
-
Adjustability: Pressure is easily managed via an adjustment screw on the top cap, with interchangeable orifice sizes to match various pump outputs.
-
Vacuum Reference: A 1:1 vacuum reference is achieved via a dedicated nipple (not required for constant pressure return-less systems).
"Dead End" System Benefits
This system utilizes a "dead end" plumbing configuration, meaning fuel does not return from the engine rail. Instead, the regulator recirculates fuel internally within the surge tank, and excess fuel is returned to the vehicle's main tank.
-
Cooler Fuel: Prevents fuel from picking up heat in the engine bay and returning it to the main tank, keeping overall fuel temperatures lower.
-
Reliability: Radium Engineering has validated this method on high-horsepower applications with zero flow issues.
