The Mr Gasket 2470R ThermoCap replaces your stock radiator cap with a 13 PSI cap that has a calibrated thermometer built into the crown. Instead of guessing whether it is safe to crack the cap open, you read the coolant temperature right off the top of the radiator. On a hot-running small block, a track car in the staging lanes, or a summer road trip in a classic with no dash temp gauge, that one glance is the difference between topping off coolant and taking a face full of steam.
Key Features and Benefits
- Built-in calibrated thermometer: Reads actual coolant temperature at the filler neck across a wide 30°F to 270°F range, so you know the state of the system before you touch the cap.
- Fahrenheit and Celsius, color-coded: The dial is calibrated in both scales with color-coded temperature zones — readable at a glance without doing math under the hood.
- Correct 13 PSI pressure rating: Matches the factory pressure spec on most domestic cooling systems, raising the coolant boiling point without over-stressing older hoses, radiator seams, or the heater core.
- Integrated coolant reclamation valve: Works with OEM-style coolant recovery systems. Coolant is bypassed to the overflow bottle when the system is hot and siphoned back into the radiator as it cools.
- Anodized aluminum construction: Aluminum body with a chromed crown and red anodized trim ring — corrosion resistant, and it dresses up the front of the engine bay far better than a plain stamped steel cap.
- Two-minute install: No tools, no drilling, no sender wiring. Unscrew the old cap, screw on the ThermoCap.
- 50-state legal: Not an emissions-related component. Ships anywhere, including California.

Fitment
This is the domestic ThermoCap. It fits the standard closed-style radiator neck used on most 1955–1993 American 4-, 6-, and 8-cylinder radiators:
- GM — Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Cadillac
- Ford — Ford, Lincoln, Mercury (including 1979–1993 Mustang)
- Chrysler — Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth
- Jeep and AMC
- Aftermarket aluminum radiators built with a domestic-style filler neck — common on hot rod, muscle car, and V8 swap builds
Before you order, check two things:
- Neck style. This cap will not fit import vehicles, or late-model vehicles that use a pressurized plastic expansion tank instead of a radiator-mounted cap. Compare your existing cap to the photos.
- Pressure rating. Match the PSI stamped on your factory cap or specified by your radiator manufacturer. If your system calls for 16 PSI, order the 2471R instead — running a lower-pressure cap than specified can allow the coolant to boil.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my Honda, Toyota, or other import?
No. This is the domestic-neck version and it will not seal correctly on an import radiator neck.
Should I get 13 PSI or 16 PSI?
Match your factory spec or your radiator manufacturer's recommendation. Higher pressure raises the boiling point, which helps on a hard-working engine, but it also puts more load on aging hoses, the radiator core, and the heater core. On a stock 1955–1993 domestic system, 13 PSI is usually the correct cap.
Does the gauge replace my dash temperature gauge?
No. It reads coolant temperature at the filler neck and is meant as a safety indicator before cap removal. It is not a substitute for a proper sender-driven dash gauge.
Does it work with an overflow or coolant recovery tank?
Yes. The integrated reclamation valve pushes coolant to the overflow bottle under pressure and siphons it back as the system cools, the same way a factory recovery cap does.
The gauge shows the coolant is too hot. Now what?
Do not open the cap. Let the engine cool, or rinse the radiator core with cool water from the outside until the needle drops into the safe zone.
Is this CARB restricted?
No. A radiator cap does not affect vehicle emissions, so this part is legal for sale and use in all 50 states, including California.
What's in the Box
One (1) Mr Gasket 2470R ThermoCap, ready to install. No gaskets, adapters, or hardware required.
Safety note: Never remove a radiator cap while the coolant is hot. Escaping coolant and steam can cause serious burns.
