A'PEXi V-MAX Pro GT-R (R33) T-Shirt
The A’PEXi V-MAX Pro R33 Skyline GT-R was a true icon of late ’90s Japanese engineering, purpose-built to challenge and redefine the U.S. import drag racing scene. Based on a 1998 Nissan GT-R (R33), the car was powered by a fully built RB26DETT 2.7-liter inline-six, featuring APEX forged pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft. Forced induction came courtesy of twin A'PEXi IHI RX-6 ball-bearing turbos paired with APEX tubular stainless-steel exhaust manifolds, all cooled by an APEX DRAG Series front-mount air-to-air intercooler. Fuel delivery was handled by a trio of Bosch fuel pumps, a five-gallon Harwood fuel cell, and twelve 550cc injectors. Airflow was managed by dual Infiniti Q45 air flow meters, with boost controlled via an APEX AVC-D boost controller and APEX racing wastegate. Tuning and engine management were entrusted to APEXi’s powerful 32-bit Power FC standalone ECU.
On Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of over 10,000 spectators, Tarzan Yamada piloted the V-MAX to a record-setting 8.47-second quarter-mile at 165.75 mph, cementing its place in drag racing history. The crew behind this achievement included Hiroto Kaneso (Crew Chief), Teruo Nagai (Electronics Engineer), Tatsuya Izumi (Chief Mechanic), and Eric Hsu (Mechanic) a dream team of engineers and tuners that brought Japanese innovation to American asphalt. With its raw power, advanced tuning, and unwavering execution, the V-MAX GT-R didn’t just compete, it set the standard for what a JDM drag car could be.
