Nissan 240SX S13 240SX Stock Exhaust to Tomei Expreme Ti Titanium Exhaust Replacement

Nissan 240SX S13 240SX Stock Exhaust to Tomei Expreme Ti Titanium Exhaust Replacement

Difficulty: Easy

Step 1

Step 1Step 1Step 1

Before we proceed with the install, we will show some before pictures of the stock exhaust. Keep in mind, this car is lowered, so all measurements shown later are relative.

Step 2

Step 2Step 2Step 2

Now, let's take a look at our exhaust.

Step 3

Step 3Step 3

Tomei includes some "bolt-smooth-paste" to help with the install. Liberally apply this to all clamp bolts, the bolts & nuts, and the exhaust hangers.

We also got some red loctite to keep bolts from backing out. A little goes a long way.

Step 4

Step 4Step 4Step 4

You can bolt up the exhaust before removing the old one to save some time while the car is on jack stands.

When bolting, we tried to install all clamps with the bolt head facing down to make it easier to access.

For nuts and bolts, we typically try to have the nuts installed pointing toward the rear of the car when possible. You can always adjust it as necessary for easiest access.

The spring tensioners should be installed with some pliers.

Step 5

Step 5Step 5Step 5

Once the car is on jack stands, find someone (or use your jack) to lightly support the exhaust.

Disconnect the exhaust from the catalytic converter.

Next, unbolt the midpipe from the hanger bushing it is screwed into.

Step 6

Step 6Step 6Step 6

Keep your exhaust supported on the inside muffler side at this point. Locate the remaining hangers & remove them.

Step 7

Step 7

You will also want a second person or jack to help support the rear muffler of the exhaust.

Once the last hanger is out, the exhaust should just drop to the ground (hopefully slowly if you supported it).

Step 8

Step 8Step 8

At this point, you can just install the next exhaust reverse of what you did to remove the old one.

Since we had time during this write up, we wanted to compare the exhausts visually, check their weight differences, and see how clearance differed.

Step 9

Step 9Step 9Step 9

The stock exhaust weighed in at just under 32 lbs.

The Tomei Expreme Titanium Exhaust weighed in at just barely over 12 lbs with hardware!

Step 10

Step 10Step 10

The stock exhaust has about 7" clearance to the bottom of the rear muffer.

The lowest point of the stock exhaust had about 5" ground clearance.

Keep in mind, this 240sx is lowered on coilovers, so your clearances may be different. This is just for relative reference.

Step 11

Step 11Step 11Step 11

The Tomei exhaust has approximately 5" ground clearance at the bottom of the rear muffler.

There is approximately 4.5" clearance at the lowest point of the exhaust.

Finally, we clear the stock tow hook by about 0.5".

Step 12

Step 12Step 12Step 12

Overall clearance seems pretty decent. Titanium welds sure are pretty...

Step 13

Step 13Step 13Step 13

Here are some shots of the exhaust from outside the car after we lowered it from the jack stands.

The S13 Tomei Expreme Titanium Exhaust is lighter, sounds better, and has great ground clearance.
