FRSport Street Touring BRZ Finishes near the top spots in Crows Landing AAS Autocross

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of taking my 2022 Subaru BRZ to Crows Landing, California, for a two-day autocross event hosted by the American Autocross Series. It was my first time testing the car with its new Cusco Zero 3X Competition suspension, featuring custom valving by Damperworks, and I couldn’t have asked for a better proving ground. The car has been setup for SCCA STR class for the past few years, but recently received a full suspension overhaul.

Saturday morning kicked off with a test and tune session. After dialing in the suspension near its stiffest settings, the BRZ felt absolutely phenomenal. The turn-in response was razor-sharp, making slaloms feel like second nature. Corner entry was composed and safe, allowing me to confidently push the limits. The slip angle on corner exit is very predictable and linear, making it easy to correct without losing time. Having the suspension set up by Damperworks and FRSport clearly paid off, and the car’s performance is complemented by a host of mods including the Fujitsubo EPU exhaust system, Karcepts front sway bar, 17x9 Enkei RPF1 wheels, and a K-System Pro Brembo brake kit.

Saturday’s competition saw me finish 2nd out of 15 in the STR class, and 14th overall in PAX. Not a bad way to start the weekend, but I knew there was more time to be found out there. The course was fast, with a good mix of high-speed corners and some technical sections, giving me a chance to really test the BRZ’s balance. Check out the onboard footage from my fastest Saturday run here.

Sunday morning came with even more confidence. The data and feedback from the previous day allowed me to fine-tune my approach, and it paid off. I secured 1st place out of 7 in the STR class and finished 10th overall in PAX. The car felt even better as I got more familiar with the course, and the suspension continued to shine, especially in the tight, technical sections where precise handling is critical.

Overall, the weekend was a success. The BRZ performed very well, and the new setup on the Cusco coilovers truly elevated the car’s capabilities. I’m excited to see what’s next for this setup, as I continue fine-tuning the car for future events. Big shout-out to FR Sport for the build and Infinite Motion in San Marcos for the alignment—both were crucial to the car's performance.

Stay tuned for more autocross adventures and further improvements to the BRZ!
